A wonderful scene from Spital Bridge in 1958 as a coal train moves across from the mainline to head round towards Peterborough East.
Gilbert Barnatt adds, “The loco is moving onto the Up slow line, which will take it round the back of the station, and thence back onto the Up line the other side of Crescent Bridge. It is possible that the train might be going down to East station, but much more likely I think that it would be yet another load of coal for London. Looking at the wagons behind the loco, I suspect too that the date is earlier than 1958, as there are a number of ex PO wagons that look like they are still in PO livery, and there were very few of those left by ’58.”
