You won’t be surprised to hear, from this image, that Hill’s Yard branched off Broad Bridge Street in close proximety to the banks of the River Nene …… and on occasions such as this, they paid the price of that close proximety. In August 1912, the river rose eight feet above normal levels !
Today the scene is totally wiped out by the development of the Rivergate shopping complex, obscuring the distant railway line.
