The long awaited turning on of the Cathedral Square fountains took place on Wednesday 2nd June 2010, during a spell of appropriately warm weather.
There is still a general sense of apprehension amongst most of the city’s population as all sorts of questions continue to arise about what happens in Winter, what happens if somebody gets inadvertantly soaked, what if somebody slips and hurts themselves on the wet paving and what about the nearby shops now being overrun by people with wet footwear and even wet clothing ?
For today, it was a novelty and fun in nice weather but will they become an established feature for years to come or consigned to the vaults as a good idea …… that really wasn’t ? Only time will tell !
